An amazing opportunity has come up to design a unique Alice themed gift for the British Library Gift shop. As a lover of everything Alice, I just had to enter.
My partner and I decided to enter the competition which was posted jointly by the British Library and Etsy. The idea was to create a product which had been inspired by the original Alice text by Lewis Carroll. The story is 150 years old this year and, in this post, we wanted to share our competition entry with you…..
A free exhibition all about Alice In Wonderland is being held at the British Library this year. This is to celebrate what has become a timeless classic. It will include the original, handwritten story by Lewis Carroll and the first illustrations by John Tenniel. It will also show some of the many interpretations that the story has inspired over the last 150 years.
Etsy has teamed up with the British Library to create this competition. The winner will be given a contract with the British Library Shop and their item will be available for sale at the exhibition. They will also have lots of professional development support from the Business & IP Centre.
Our Alice entry
For the competition, my partner and I decided to design a deck of cards. We wanted to use pictures from the original manuscript, which are very different to the countless interpretations from the last 150 years. The idea of creating a pack of cards seemed only natural as they are a key part of the Alice tale.
We hope you like them and would really appreciate your feedback in the comments below.
The decks are also available in my Etsy shop and there are some more pictures below.
Thanks,
Pepper x
